Annually, the Office of Advocacy uses call report and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) data to analyze the lending activity of individual reporting commercial banks in the United States. Rankings of small business lenders in each state are based on data collected by the Federal Reserve.

This twelfth annual banking study has expanded coverage in two respects-the inclusion of depository institutions such as Federal and state savings banks and savings and loans associations and expanded geographic coverage to include territorial areas.
Introduction
This edition of Small and Micro Businesses in the United States provides analysis based on the call report and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) data collected by the Federal Reserve on the lending performance and activities of individual reporting institutions for 2004-2005. The information is analyzed and aggregated by state and territory, and also sorted by loan amount, institution size, and numbers of loans in an effort to better assist small business depositors and borrowers.
